My name is MaryAlice Brown. I am an adult student returning to college, AKA a non-traditional student. Onondaga Community College has been a great place to explore, discover and transform.Philosophical, spiritual and mystical issues are of great interest to me. As Natalie Goldberg said, “Sometimes when you think you are done, it is just the edge of beginning” Politically, I am left of liberal—I used to be a liberal, but the liberals moved to the middle. I enjoy creative writing, especially poetry. I have yet to hear music that I did not love. On Meyers Briggs, I am an ENTJ. I am right brained. According to StrengthQuest, I have connectedness, learner, empathetic, input, and strategic. My majors are Health Information Technology and Business Administration. Andy Feldheim, my partner, is also a non-traditional student. He is pursuing degrees in philosophy and psychology at SUNY Oswego. I am active in advocacy groups in the community including the Self Help and Advocacy Council, Peer Networking Group, and the Regional Advocacy Committee. I volunteer at Franciscan Northside Ministries and at Unity Kitchen. I am a visitor advocate for Jail Ministry. Persistance is the most important part of life. Winston Churchill understood this when he said, “Success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm.” I look forward to being a part of the growth of the Student Advisory Council of the American Association of University Women. |
