Information: Julie Gondar was elected as the President of the Student Assembly of the State University of New York April 17, 2010. This position also requires her to serve as the Student Trustee on the SUNY Board of Trustees, beginning June 1, 2010. Prior to serving as president, she was secretary of the SUNY Student Assembly and served as a member of the SUNY Strategic Plan’s group of 200. In her quest to gain more knowledge and experience in higher education, she interned for Assemblymember Deborah Glick in the spring 2010 legislative session and worked on a financial aid and support services report for the Assemblymember. President Gondar has devoted much of her college career to listening to the voices of her fellow students and understanding their needs. During her tenure at the University at Albany, she has served three consecutive terms as Senator at Large, representing more than 14,000 undergraduates for the Student Association. During these terms, she served on several university committees such as the Undergraduate Academic Council and the Council on Academic Standing and Research. In conjunction with the University Senate, she also served on student committees including Governmental Affairs, Governmental Appropriation, and University Outreach and Ethics. Raised in East Greenbush, New York, President Gondar graduated from Columbia High School and participated in the Leaders of Tomorrow Leading Today program. She dedicated much of her time to her community while growing up, volunteering at the East Greenbush Library, Albany Memorial Hospital and the Phillips Road Firehouse. President Gondar also enjoys participating in community races such as the Freihofer’s Run for Women and the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure. Pursuant of her B.A in Public Policy with a concentration in Public Administration at the end of this upcoming academic year, President Gondar is proud to have the opportunity to be a role model to the 465,000 students on 64 campuses that she will serve and represent.
